Our Sponsor A Hectare project is a unique way for you, your family or your business to become and stay involved in restoring and protecting the North Island brown kiwi and other endangered wild life in the Whinray Reserve. Your annual renewable donation will keep us on track achieving our aims.
Did you know 18 out of every 20 kiwi chicks are killed by stoats every year. Kiwi are still on track for extinction in our forests because of predators.
The Whinray Ecological Charitable Trust was formed with the intention of not only restoring our national icon the kiwi but to help protect the Whinray Scenic Reserve and conserve other endangered bird and wildlife species living in the area such as North Island robin, weka, falcon, whio, kaka, rifleman and long tailed bats.
The success of the Trust has been due to a determined and passionate local community and a wide range of volunteers and generous sponsors who have made this project such a success.
The reserve is located in Eastland, some 87 km from Gisborne.
We regularly update our Facebook page with the latest information on our activities. 'Like' us and you will see us appear on your newsfeed from time to time.
